Orenburg secure top-flight status with win over Ural
FC Khimki have been relegated from the Russian Premier League after a poor run of form saw them finish bottom of the table.
The Moscow-based club had been in the top flight since 2020, but they have struggled this season, winning just four of their 30 matches.
Their relegation was confirmed on the final day of the season as they lost 5-0 at home to Orenburg.
Orenburg, meanwhile, secured their top-flight status with a 2-0 win over Ural Yekaterinburg.
The win means that Orenburg finish the season in 12th place, while Ural are relegated to the second tier.
Khimki's relegation is a blow to the club, who had been hoping to establish themselves as a top-flight side.
However, they will now have to rebuild in the second tier and hope to return to the Premier League next season.
