North Korean Air Force: A Growing Threat

North Korea's Military Aviation Force

The Korean People's Army Air Force (KPAF) is the unified military aviation force of North Korea. It is responsible for the country's air defense, as well as for providing support to ground forces. The KPAF has a long history, dating back to the Korean War, and has been involved in a number of conflicts since then.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has paid more attention to the KPAF in recent years, and has ordered a number of new aircraft and weapons systems for the force. This has led to concerns that North Korea is preparing for a new conflict.

North Korea's Air Force in Action

In 2017, North Korean fighters came within 5 meters of a US RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft and shadowed it for 22 minutes. This incident prompted the US Air Force to provide fighter escorts for its future reconnaissance flights over North Korea.

The North Korean Peoples Air Force has not acquired a new combat aircraft in more than 30 years. However, the force has been able to maintain its aging fleet and has been able to keep it operational.

North Korea's Air Force Capabilities

North Korea has a relatively large air force, with an estimated 1,000 aircraft. However, the vast majority of these aircraft are old and outdated. The KPAF's most modern aircraft is the MiG-29, which was first introduced in the 1980s.

Despite its aging fleet, the KPAF is still a capable force. The force has a large number of surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), which can be used to defend against enemy aircraft.

The Future of North Korea's Air Force

The future of the North Korean Air Force is uncertain. The force is facing a number of challenges, including the aging of its fleet and the lack of access to new technology.

However, North Korea is determined to maintain a strong air force. The country has invested heavily in its military, and has shown a willingness to use force to achieve its goals.
